Michigan State Numismatic Society is excited to announce that we now have a special membership perk for existing members! Here are the details!
- Make sure that your membership is current – you pay for a year at a time for the cost of $20 per year! Join our more than 700 members that enjoy the benefits of the Michmatist and other announcements throughout the year.
- Come to either the spring or the fall convention on Friday mornings and show your membership card and get in at 10:00 a.m. before everyone else can enter!
- It’s that simple!
Now for a little history. For a long time, the question was asked at the registration table as people came to our conventions – What is the benefit of being a member? We were able to tell them that it gave them access to information about our conventions, 4 issues of the Michmatist that shared the most updated information about our shows and also other club meetings and local shows. It also gave them information about the website that has been an evolving document over the past few years. However, for a lot of people, the benefits that we shared weren’t worth the price of membership. So…we decided to change things a bit.
At a board meeting in January 2026, Michigan State Numismatic Society voted to introduce a new membership perk – allowing members to enter the convention on Friday only an hour before the general public. The spring convention was our first attempt at this move.
So…what happened? We had some very grateful members who were allowed into the show before everyone else. We also had some very upset individuals who weren’t happy that they weren’t allowed in with everyone else. Some chose to leave, others chose to join MSNS and get in the door. This activity made us realize that we needed to up the ante when it came to publicity about this issue so folks who weren’t members didn’t react in less than a positive way and we had to make people wait who were eagerly wanting to get in to the show.
So…be watching for more information about this movement! We are doing the same thing at our 70th Anniversary Convention, held on November 20-22 at Macomb Community College! Only on Friday, those who are or become members will be allowed onto the bourse floor an hour early, starting at 10:00 a.m. The floor opens to the public at 11:00 a.m.
Needless to say, we are encouraging all individuals to become members before the fall show, and if you are already a member, plan to renew your membership! As one individual figured out, it costs $50 for an early bird pass that lets you in early on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, it only costs $20 to get in early on Friday. That means that it will cost $10 per show to get in early on the first day!
