Whether you’re a seasoned numismatist or simply coin-curious, the Michigan State Numismatic Society’s Fall Convention is the perfect event to spark curiosity, learn something new, and yes have fun with the whole family!
Special Activities for Kids and Teens (Ages 5–18)
We’re working hard to make this convention unforgettable for our Young Numismatists (YNs). Whether your kids or grandkids are collectors-in-training or just want to explore something new, they’ll find plenty to do and prizes to earn!
Coins for As
Bring in a recent report card showing at least one “A” in any subject, and the student will receive one free coin of their choice from our special Coins for As bins. A great way to celebrate hard work with a little history!
Double Scavenger Hunts
Two exciting scavenger hunts await on the bourse floor! As kids explore the convention, they’ll discover fascinating facts about how money is made, how it’s changed over time, and what makes different currencies around the world unique.
“Catalog & Keep” Opportunity
Kids can dig through bins of world coins, grab a catalog, and learn how to identify the country, denomination, and value of each one. Once they’ve shown an MSNS volunteer, that coin is theirs to keep and they can do it as many times as they want!
Coin Design Competition
Calling all creative minds! Ages 5–18 are invited to enter our “Design a Michigan Coin” competition. Show us your vision of what a future Michigan coin could look like. The winner will receive a FREE one-year Junior Membership to MSNS!
Saturday = Family Fun Day!
Saturday, November 15 is all about the kids.
After a morning of exploring and learning, we’re hosting a FREE pizza party and Young Numismatist Auction for kids ages 5 – 18!
- YN Auction: Starts promptly at 11:30 AM. Kids can use special “YN Auction Bucks” to bid on coins, paper money, supplies, and more. Come early for a chance to earn extra bucks and scope out the auction table!
- Pizza Party: Begins around 1:00 PM (immediately following the YN Auction.)
This is a great day to bring your youth group, scout troop, sports team, or even your neighborhood friends. The more, the merrier!
